Taxes
It had been nearly two decades since Minnesotans have received meaningful tax relief. In 2017, we changed that. I helped to champion a bill returning $650 million in tax relief to Minnesota families in 2018-2019 and $790 million in 2020-2021.
- Nearly 284,000 senior citizen tax filers received tax reductions; 72,000 of those no longer pay state income tax on their social security benefits.
- A family of four making $50,000 a year received an additional $1,200 toward their child care expenses.
- 65,000 students received an average of a $414 reduction in their taxes through a new tax credit for student loan payments.
- 240,000 farmers will receive property tax relief to reduce their disproportionate share of school district debt service.
Moving forward, I will continue to fight for lower taxes and to simplify the tax filing process.
Health Care
Fighting Rising Health Care Costs: After years of rising health care costs, I proudly helped to deliver key health care reforms that will save Minnesota families millions of dollars over the next few years. These are reforms I helped fight to include increasing competition in the individual marketplace, protecting patients from unfair billing practices, and creating better access to coverage for small businesses and their employees.
I will continue to fight to bring reforms to lower the cost of health care for Minnesotans.
Safer Roads and Bridges
Everyone agrees we need to make an investment in our roads and bridges. We made the largest investment in state history in our road and bridge infrastructure, all without raising taxes. Instead, we prioritized making our roads and bridges safer -- a core function of government -- over building another liberal pet project light rail train that would run empty cars between stops.
Protecting Kids
We must protect the most vulnerable among us. This is why I fought for and voted for pro-life legislation to protect the unborn.
I also fought to protect children from becoming victims of dangerous predators. I championed legislation to increase penalties for child pornography and to stop prosecutors and judges from giving lenient sentences to those who admit to sexually abusing children. Standing up for these victims is the right thing to do and I will continue this fight for as long as I represent our community in St. Paul.
